Scolymia, now classified as Lobophyllia vitiensis but still commonly known as the Scoly or Doughnut Coral, is a stunning solitary LPS coral prized for its intense colours, fleshy appearance, and striking patterns. Hardy and rewarding to keep, Scolys thrive in stable reef aquariums and make an exceptional centrepiece for any display.
For best results, place your Scolymia on the sand bed or lower rockwork under low to moderate lighting (50–150 PAR) with gentle, indirect water flow. Feed 2–3 times per week with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, rotifers, or quality coral pellets to promote vibrant colouration, tissue inflation, and healthy growth. Maintain stable water parameters with a temperature of 24–26°C, salinity of 1.024–1.026, alkalinity of 8–11 dKH, calcium between 380–450 ppm, magnesium between 1250–1400 ppm, and low but measurable nutrients for long-term health.
